Converged infrastructure
Converged infrastructure is the grouping of storage, network and compute hardware as a single data center unit. The entire converged infrastructure unit is managed from one interface. With converged infrastructure, the combined footprint is smaller than traditional equipment that has separate storage, network and compute hardware.
Converged infrastructure components from different manufacturers can be combined to create a unit that meets desired performance needs. IT teams can support specific workloads and business goals by building a custom converged infrastructure unit. This modular approach helps simplify scale and maintenance while also offering flexibility.
Converged infrastructure is similar to hyperconverged infrastructure in that they provide common IT infrastructure capabilities from a single unit. However, hyperconverged infrastructure is software defined and is not customizable.
